Puget Drive Garden

Puget Drive Garden
2010 | Site 4000 sq ft | Design by Stephen Stewart and Blair Cresswell

Construction by Carrot Top Gardens | Stonework by Raincoast Stonework

This garden presented a challenging topography with an 18’ grade change from the city sidewalk to the residence front door. Select basalt boulders weighing over 2000 lbs and basalt treads weighing in over 500 lbs were used to lock in the dry stacked walls and also to provide interest and variation in the wall pattern.

Buxus hedging line the tops of the walls to define the gardens while plantings of the ferns Blechnum spirant (Deer Fern), Polystichum munitum (Western Sword Fern), Adiantum aleuticum (Western Maidenhair Fern), Athyrium niponicum var. pictum (Japanese Painted Fern) and the shrub Mahonia x media ‘Charity’ (Oregon Grape) create a natural pacific northwest feeling under the towering hemlocks.
