Deer Resistant Cottage Garden

Deer Resistant Cottage Garden
2009 | Site 19 000 sq ft | Design by Stephen Stewart and Donna Chominchuk | Construction by Carrot Top Gardens | Stonework by Raincoast Stonework

This ocean side, deer resistant garden uses the simplicity of ornamental grasses and native plantings to create a calm garden surrounding the upgraded original cabin.

Crushed oyster shell paths shine in the moonlight and the colourful spheres of the Allium giganteum, Allium cristophii and Allium sphaerocephalon (Ornamental Onions) float among the ornamental grasses Calamagrostis acutiflora ‘Karl Forester’ (Feather Reed Grass), Sesleria autumnalis (Autumn Moor Grass) and Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Hameln’ (Dwarf Fountain Grass).

In the shady areas, Hakonechloa macra (Japanese Forest Grass) blends seamlessly with the native plants Polystichum munitum (Western Sword Fern) and Gaultheria shallon (Salal).

Planted on mass, Calamagrostis brachytricha (Korean Feather Reed Grass), sways calmly in unison with the ocean breeze.
